OT - Encouraging Pincer Grasp
- Playing with clothes pegs. The pegs which only need to be pushed down are the easiest, then the ‘snap-type’ pegs where the two top pieces have to be pinched together in order to open the peg.
- Playing with pegboards, Lego, or mosaics.
- Tearing paper into pieces for use in a collage.
- Pinching bubble wrap.
- Holding a bead to manoeuvre it along a bead frame.
- Pinching play dough.
- Eating sultanas, peanuts or raisins.
- Peeling off stickers and using them to make a pattern or picture.
- Picking up coins and posting them in a money box.
- Threading beads, macaroni, cotton reels, play dough beads, pieces of straws etc.
- Making pictures by ‘pin-pricking’ along designs.
- Sewing with simple sewing cards or completing lacing cards.
- Picking up marbles and posting them down a helter-skelter.
- Picking up sequins and placing them onto pasted paper to make a picture or pattern.
- Sprinkling coconut onto iced biscuits to decorate.
